How do I actually set it up?

Log into your nuschl account on your phone and on the device you're setting up for your child using two separate devices with one account. Pick which one becomes your child's, then manage everything from your own phone. It takes a few minutes and you won't need to touch your child's device again after that.

Can I control what my child can do with it?

Yes, entirely from your phone. You can lock a single contact, lock the whole device, set a cooldown after a long call, or cap how often one person can call in a day, all without touching your child's device.

Can both parents manage the same child?

Yes. Both parents can add contacts, manage limits, and control the device from their own separate phones.

What devices does it work on?

Most Android and iOS phones or tablets from the last few years work with nuschl. You can use whatever spare device you already have. The company plans to provide a list of recommended devices soon.

Does nuschl help with screen time?

Yes. There's nothing to scroll and no notifications, so there's no reason to pick it up except to call someone. Most families use it for a few short calls a day, not open-ended screen time.

A minimalist video-calling app for toddlers and young children with only calls and video messages, no games, ads, or bright distractions.

About nuschl

Screenshot of the nuschl homepage — nuschl: the homepage

nuschl is a minimalist video-calling app designed specifically for toddlers and young children. It allows parents to manage calls and video messages with only the family members they choose, eliminating games, ads, notification spam, and other distractions that make traditional apps unsuitable for children.

The app works on spare phones or tablets parents already own. Setup takes five minutes: parents sign up with just an email, create cartoon portraits from photos (which are then deleted), and log in on the child's device. From their own phone, parents maintain complete control—locking contacts, setting call limits, and managing cooldowns—without needing to touch the child's device again.

Every contact appears as a simple cartoon portrait. Calls are designed for simplicity: children see faces, not buttons, and cannot accidentally end calls or mute. The app includes live video calls in both directions and short video message capabilities.

nuschl follows strict EU and US child data privacy rules (GDPR and COPPA). It minimizes screen time by design—there is nothing to scroll, no notifications, and no reason to pick it up except to call someone.
